Mount Pleasant Coffee Co. is preparing to open at 106 N. Main Street in downtown Mount Pleasant, with a potential debut slated for June, owner Erinn Hartwell told WhatNow in a recent interview.

The new coffee shop will open next to The Southern Baking Co., also owned by Hartwell, creating a family-run presence in the downtown square.

The concept is designed with the customer experience in mind, offering a space where visitors can slow down, meet with friends, and spend time in a comfortable, unhurried setting, Hartwell said, while also accommodating customers looking for a quicker, grab-and-go option.

“We want the coffee shop to be an amazing place to gather and just have conversation,” Hartwell said. “When I go different places to support the community, I want to have conversation with friends and just enjoy the atmosphere and not feel rushed — and that’s the experience we want our customers to enjoy.”

The shop will focus exclusively on beverages, offering a range of options beyond traditional coffee.

“It won’t just be coffee,” Hartwell said. “It’ll be energy drinks, smoothies, matchas — all things liquid.”

Hartwell also plans to introduce canned coffee drinks as part of the lineup.

“What is really trending right now are canned coffee drinks, which is really big in America right now, but it hasn’t tapped into Tennessee yet,” Hartwell said.

The business is also working with the city to secure a designated pickup parking space in front of the square, giving customers the option to order ahead and collect their drinks from a dedicated spot, in addition to the sit-down experience.

“The downtown square was closed for two years due to renovations, which shifted traffic away from Main Street,” Hartwell said. “So now we’re just trying to get people to start coming back downtown and enjoying it again.”
