A new Central American restaurant is poised to move into a former café in Lafayette, according to a commercial alterations permit filed with the Lafayette Consolidated Government. The permit is for a commercial kitchen renovation at 1517 Ambassador Caffery Pkwy for a restaurant called La Chapina Y La Catracha, which are colloquial terms for “the Guatemalan woman and the Honduran woman.”
The renovations, valued at $97,000, will transform the former Coffee Dash café into what appears to be a Central American or Latin American restaurant. Currently, the planned restaurant’s only presence is a Facebook page with limited information. What Now New Orleans has reached out for more details.
News of a new Latin American restaurant in Lafayette comes just a few months after What Now New Orleans reported on the planned move of a Latin-Cajun restaurant called Patacon. The owners of that restaurant are Venezuelan, but Patacon serves dishes from many countries in the region.
