Gentilly-based Thai’d Up is preparing to bring its dynamic mix of traditional Thai flavors and creative fusion dishes to Uptown with a new location at 4520 Freret St. While the restaurant offers well-known dishes like pad Thai and Tom Yum soup, it also offers heat- and herb-heavy profiles found in Northern Thailand’s Isan region, such as larb — a fiery minced meat salad — and gai yang chicken barbecue. Alongside these street-food preparations, the restaurant features pan-Asian and fusion dishes ranging from edamame to Thai chicken wings to flaky roti-based beignets.

The new outpost marks the first dedicated Thai concept along Freret Street, filling a distinct spot in the road’s already-impressive dining landscape. Owners Saowanit “Kate” Welch and Ryan Walsh, who launched the original Thai’d Up near the Fair Grounds Race Course in 2022, plan to secure a liquor license for the Freret space. What Now New Orleans reached out to the owners for more details.
