A beloved Brooklyn-born sandwich shop is adding another location to its stack.
Edith’s Sandwich Counter, owned by Elyssa Heller, will open on the Upper West Side at 186 Columbus Ave., according to CBRE’s third-quarter Manhattan retail report.
The new outpost will join Edith’s flagship in Williamsburg and its existing locations in the West Village and Tribeca.
The shop began as a pandemic pop-up inside Paulie Gee’s Pizzeria in Greenpoint. Its name honors Heller’s great-aunt Edith, who ran a Brooklyn deli in the 1950s.
By spring 2021, Edith Sandwich Counter had opened its first brick-and-mortar location, quickly gaining popularity across New York City.
The menu features Jewish-inspired bagels and schmears, breakfast sandwiches, wraps and classic deli fare.
The shop’s signature specialties include the BEC&L, featuring Cooper’s Sharp American cheese, a crispy potato latke, thick-cut crispy bacon and Edith’s special sauce served on the side. It is the only bacon, egg and cheese sandwich featured on The New York Times list of sandwiches defining New York City.
Other favorites include the Sephardi Breakfast Wrap, featuring crispy, flaky malawach stuffed with alheira chicken sausage, cheesy scrambled eggs, pickled Fresno peppers, herbs and harissa mayo; and Totkes, bite-sized versions of its famous square latkes accompanied by cheese sauce.
Alongside its acclaimed food, the shop draws long lines for its iced café slushie, a frozen cold brew blended with oat milk and tahini.
An official opening date for the Upper West Side spot has not yet been announced.
