Barista Parlor LLC, a specialty coffee company based in Nashville, continues to face financial pressures. Months after announcing its plans to shutter three brick-and-mortar stores across the city, the company has now initiated a bankruptcy filing.
Note: Chapter 11 allows businesses to reorganize their debts while continuing operations under court supervision. Barista Parlor LLC has filed for Chapter 11 subchapter V, which provides a streamlined Chapter 11 process for qualifying small business debtors. A Chapter 11 filing does not necessarily mean that a business is closing. For additional information, readers are encouraged to contact the business directly.
Barista Parlor LLC Files for Chapter 11
The latest case details available on PACER show that the company submitted its petition on October 21. Court records identify Barista Parlor LLC as a small business, adding that it has decided to move ahead using Subchapter V proceedings.
The development comes after the company decided to cease operations in Germantown, Sylvan Supply, and Hillsboro Village. According to Nashville Scene, owner Andy Mumma had cited rising rent, coffee costs, insurance, labor expenses, and taxes. He added that the revenue back then was insufficient to offset the surging operating costs.
The company also intended to temporarily shut its first East Nashville location for a refresh, with plans to concentrate on coffee and manual brewing techniques.
Barista Parlor LLC is a coffee business whose first location opened in East Nashville in 2012. It sells coffee products online, including varieties such as Copilot, Decaf Colombia Cauca, and Daredevil. Customers can purchase coffee in different sizes and grinds, with subscription options also available.
Highlights from the Petition
The company submitted a summary of assets and liabilities, which indicated a financial gap. While Barista Parlor LLC’s assets are estimated to be around $18,826, its liabilities are approximately $1.12 million.
The company’s filings also include a list of creditors with the largest unsecured claims. A few of these creditors are AMA Recovery Group, Spartan Business Solutions, LLC, Corporation Service Company, Hatcher Family Dairy, and Pinnacle Business Funding LLC.
