Two oceanfront sister restaurants located in Laguna Beach are permanently closing. Driftwood Kitchen and The Deck on Laguna will operate through the month of August. The restaurants are closing to make way for the redevelopment of the Pacific Edge Hotel property.
Driftwood Kitchen and The Deck on Laguna Bid Farewell
Driftwood Kitchen, an upscale, indoor-outdoor restaurant serving California coastal cuisine with an ocean-to-table menu. The restaurant built its reputation for its formal dinners, brunches, and scenic views. The Deck on Laguna is an open-air, casual beach bar and restaurant built on the beach.
Both restaurants offer refined California coastal cuisine and craft cocktails, perfect for romantic dates and special occasions.
In an Instagram post, the team announced the upcoming closures. The team said both restaurants will remain open through August.
“Since their openings, both restaurants became icons, embraced by locals and tourists alike,” the team wrote.
They thanked the community and said, “We value the many guests that have joined us—we have served nearly one million oysters, including 10 years of Sip & Shuck events, which raised money for local nonprofit organizations.”

Reason for the Closure
According to the announcement, the restaurants are closing due to the redevelopment of the hotel property. The parent hotel company, Pacific Edge Hotel, will undergo structural changes. They confirmed that the restaurants will be closing “to make way for the redevelopment of the entire Pacific Edge Hotel property.”
Talking about the closure, the restaurant team added that in the past decade more than 50 restaurants in Laguna have closed for financial reasons. However, the closure of Driftwood Kitchen and The Deck on Laguna is not due to any economic reason.
The team invited the community to visit the restaurant one more time and enjoy a meal before its closure. The closures will remove two longtime oceanfront dining options from Laguna Beach.
