City records show that Orange County’s only Portillo’s will be undergoing a renovation. The brand has filed permits to do construction work at the restaurant, located at 8390 La Palma Ave. in Buena Park.

Its Buena Park outpost is one of two in Southern California; the other is in Moreno Valley. The location has a 30’s Prohibition theme, with vintage decor and signed photos of visiting celebrities.

With its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, and cheese fries earning widespread acclaim, Portillo’s has garnered serious interest over the years. In 2020, the chain was honored as one of the 10 best fast-casual restaurants in the country by USA Today.

Founded in 1963, the business started as a small hot dog stand. It has now grown to have nearly 100 locations nationwide. Portillo’s did not respond for comment on what the renovation plans in Buena Park entail.
