Yumee Katsu may be expanding its Orange County presence with a new location planned for 654 E 1st St in Tustin. According to a recent plan review filing with the Orange County Health Care Agency, Yumee Katsu is planning a food remodel at the former home of Pineapple Hill Grill.
Tm Yu is the franchisee behind the Tustin location, and he believes the restaurant will debut around December, pending approvals. According to Yu, he selected Tustin because of its central location, diverse surrounding community, and strong retail activity. “It’s kind of a hub,” he said, noting that the area offers heavy foot traffic while providing a more affordable alternative to nearby Irvine, where commercial rents are significantly higher.
The fast-growing concept specializes in Korean-style katsu and offers a menu centered on crispy breaded cutlets served with curry, udon, rice dishes, and a variety of specialty options. Existing locations feature dishes such as Cheese Katsu, Curry Katsu, King Don Katsu, Spicy Pork Katsu, and Katsu Curry Udon, along with Korean favorites like tteokbokki and kimchi-based dishes.
The Korean-inspired take on traditional Japanese katsu has expanded into multiple markets across the United States in recent years, including locations in California, Georgia, and Oregon. It has built a fanbase around its crispy cutlets with house-made sauces, curry, and a selection of noodle dishes.
