An off-price retailer is relocating this fall, but shoppers won’t have to go far.
Forman Mills will move to the former Bed Bath & Beyond space at 1223 Whitehall Mall after closing its store at 2150 MacArthur Rd. on July 5, a spokesperson told Whatnow Philadelphia.
“I think it was very important to stay close to the neighborhood we were already in because we already know who our shoppers are and that they wanted us there. I think it was really important,” the spokesperson said.
The new space will feature a refreshed look.
“We’re moving to a much newer location. With us being closed for a couple of months in the area but then opening up to a fresh new set of doors, brand new merch, new signs—it’s nice to give the store, even though it’s a brand new location, a facelift,” the spokesperson said.
Founded by Rick Forman, Forman Mills began in 1977 as a weekend flea market business selling T-shirts and sportswear with an $80 loan from his father. The company opened its first Philadelphia storefront in 1981 and its first warehouse-style superstore in South Philadelphia in 1985.
It has since grown into a chain with locations across multiple states, offering discounted apparel, footwear, accessories and home goods.
The spokesperson said the new store also offers a wider selection of brands to excite shoppers. Customers can find licensed brands such as Adidas, Reebok and Champion, along with Y2K favorites like Juicy Couture and Bebe, at up to 80% off regular department store prices. Forman Mills also features seasonal deals, including back-to-school savings.
“We really try to come through, especially in those seasonal times for families, but we also like to remind shoppers that do want to spend a little more or are on trend or like brands that we have those things too,” the spokesperson said.
The grand opening is set for Sept. 24 and will feature a variety of community activities, including free gift cards ranging from $5 to $50 for the first 100 guests, as well as food, music, face painting and balloons for children.
“We’re excited to just be able to bring the community together and showcase all over again what Forman’s is about, which is bringing low prices to the neighborhood for people who need it most,” the spokesperson said.
