Mr. Maple Donuts, a family-owned donut shop with roots in Vancouver, Washington, is expanding into the Portland metro area with a new location at 363 S. State Street, Suite A in Lake Oswego, according to owner Mike Aljamal, who confirmed the details to What Now Portland. Aljamal said the team is targeting an opening at the beginning of August, if the permitting process moves smoothly.
The Vancouver-based chain currently operates locations in Hazel Dell, Andresen, Cascade Park, and Orchards Square (all in Vancouver) as well as a Wilsonville location in the Portland metro and a newer outpost in Phoenix, Arizona. The Lake Oswego shop will be the brand’s second Oregon location and its first south of the river. Aljamal told What Now he chose the area because he saw a gap in the market and wanted to fill it. “We’re happy to serve the Lake Oswego area” he said. “There was no other donut shop in that area and we wanted to fill that need and, hopefully, be able to give back to the community”.
What makes the Lake Oswego location stand out from the rest of the chain is its expanded menu. In addition to the 60 to 70 varieties of donuts made overnight that customers have come to expect at other locations, this shop will introduce fresh hotcake donuts, available daily from 7 to 11 a.m. Beyond that, the Lake Oswego store will also carry croissant and bagel sandwiches and a frozen drink menu for the summer months. Aljamal said this location will serve as a test site for those additions, with plans to roll them out across the rest of the chain if successful.
On the hiring front, Mr. Maple Donuts is looking for at least seven people from the Lake Oswego and Westlake area to join the team. Interested applicants can apply in their website.
