Cascada Thermal Springs and Hotel, the underground luxury spa and hotel that opened at 1150 NE Alberta Street in Portland’s Alberta Arts District in 2025 and quickly earned a spot on Esquire’s list of the world’s best new hotels, is expanding to Bend with a new location that is bigger, bolder, and built specifically for the Central Oregon landscape. Brian Heather of Solterra, the development team behind the project, confirmed to What Now Portland that the team just broke ground, with a late 2028 opening targeted.
The Bend location isn’t just a copy of what Portland already has. It will feature 250% more water than the original, a grander thermal springs experience, and design elements drawn directly from the Central Oregon landscape, something the Portland location, tucked underground in the Alberta Arts District, doesn’t offer.
“It’s a larger, elevated spa experience with views of Mount Bachelor,” Heather said. “A different ethos in the design inspired by the Central Oregon landscape.”
The choice of Bend was deliberate. Heather described it simply as “the most beautiful vacation destination in the Pacific Northwest,” and a place where a world-class thermal spa experience fits as naturally as the volcanic peaks that define the skyline. The project is also being built with Bend’s local community in mind, not just the visitors who flood the city every ski season.
“The community supported us in Portland, and we’re building a project in Bend that will be as much for the locals as it will be for the people that come to visit Bend,” Heather said.
The Portland original has four pools, a sauna, a steam room, spa treatments, movement studios, a restaurant, and hotel rooms, all anchored by the city’s only underground thermal springs. The Bend location is expected to build on that foundation with a significantly expanded water program and a design identity that stands entirely on its own.
