The Brewing Bean, the mobile coffee cart run by Mariam Armenyan and her 18-year-old daughter Noemi, is setting up shop inside Mimo Bake Studio at 3581 Mather Field Road, Suite A in Rancho Cordova, with Armenyan confirming to What Now Sacramento that the partnership is expected to launch in August. The collab brings an espresso-focused coffee program to a Brazilian bakery, creating one of the more unique business partnerships the Sacramento area has seen in a while.
The story of how it all came together is almost too good. Armenyan, Mimo co-owners Mirella Maruza and Monique Torres all met at the graduation ceremony for the MBARK business incubator program put on by the Rancho Cordova Area Chamber. The three women sat next to each other, Armenyan started talking about coffee, and Maruza and Torres realized they’d found exactly the coffee expert they’d been looking for to pair with their food program.
Armenyan’s love of coffee runs deep. Growing up in an Armenian household, she and her sisters used to rate Starbucks drinks in glass cups together. She later worked as a loan officer before buying a coffee cart from a vendor two years ago and building The Brewing Bean from scratch. Coffee is clearly a family affair, her sister Inga Arakelyan owns Crème Coffee in Downtown Sacramento, and her other sister Ester Nersisyan is involved with Concept Coffee in Midtown.
Meanwhile, Mimo Bake Studio, has been building its own following since opening its first brick-and-mortar location about 10 months ago. Co-founders Maruza and Torres, both originally from the Brazilian coastal city of Recife, met in the Bay Area and eventually moved to Sacramento, where they spent years selling at farmers markets and pop-ups before opening the 1,200-square-foot Rancho Cordova location. Their menu centers on Brazilian specialties like pão de queijo (traditional Brazilian cheese bread), and acai bowls.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, the three women see this as a long-term partnership, with future locations already on their minds, but for now, all eyes are on Rancho Cordova.
