Plans for a new Chipotle Mexican Grill at the former Cindy’s Restaurant site have been filed for a Conditional Use Permit, Design Review, and a Ministerial Demolition Permit with the City of Davis to build a 2,334-square-foot restaurant at 4823 Chiles Road.

The project will demolish the old restaurant and construct a new quick-service restaurant with a drive-thru lane. The proposed restaurant is approximately the same size as the previous Cindy’s and will be constructed in a location similar to the existing restaurant building.

According to materials submitted to the Davis Planning Commission, the new Chipotle will contain a drive-thru lane exclusive for pickup orders, known as the “Chipotlane.” Additional site improvements include new site paving, landscaping, accessible EV charging stalls, and new lighting. The project also proposes to add an agriculture-themed mural on the wall along the pick-up lane.

The proposed Chipotle will also have available seating indoor and outdoors. There will be 19 parking spaces and 18 bike parking spaces for customers who want to dine in or walk in and pick up their orders. Property owner/developer Jay Mundy mentioned in a Business Journal coverage that he hopes to complete construction by the end of 2025.

There is currently one other Chipotle location in Davis at 227 E Street. Chipotle stated in an email to What Now Detroit that they cannot confirm the Chiles Road location but “are exploring opportunities to bring our real food to the Davis community.”
