A routine health inspection was conducted at Seapot restaurant on September 1. The Sacramento County Department of Health cited the restaurant for multiple major health violations, including vermin activity, improper food-holding temperatures, and dust accumulation.
The restaurant received a red placard, and inspectors recommended that it close following the inspection.

Seapot is a Korean-style BBQ restaurant that serves classic hotpot. According to the report, inspectors noted the following violations:
- The report noted that approximately four to five adult live German cockroaches were found under the automatic dishwasher along the back leg post. Two to three adult live German cockroaches were found in the automatic dishwasher along the electrical conduit lines.
- One adult female German cockroach with an egg and two German cockroach nymphs were found below the automatic dishwasher along the motor.
- 1 live adult German cockroach was also observed behind the preparation sink, which was located at the rear of the kitchen. Several dead cockroach bodies were found on the floor under the automatic dishwasher. Multiple flies were observed around the food prep area.
- Due to vermin infestation, the facility was recommended to close, and all food sales and preparation were stopped. The staff was instructed to conduct aggressive professional pest control to eliminate the vermin infestation by using approved pest control methods. The restaurant is required to be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.
- According to the report, the restaurant will undergo a reinspection before its health permit can be reinstated.
- A handwashing sink in the back near the warewashing area was partially blocked. Staff removed all the utensils during the inspection.
- Udon noodles were stored in a pan on a shelf and measured at 46°F without temperature control, instead of being kept cold after thawing. The staff was instructed to relocate all food items immediately into properly functioning equipment and maintain a cold holding temperature at 41°F or below.

- A bottle of bleach was stored above clean food dishes for the conveyor belt. The staff was instructed to relocate the chemicals to prevent contamination.
- The report noted accumulated dust was observed on the fan guards of the 2-door upright cooler beside the first walk-in cooler, and heavy debris accumulation was observed on the floor below the bulk ice machine. The staff was advised to clean the equipment within 5 days.
- Ice buildup was noted at the exterior part and door rim of the walk-in freezer. The staff was advised to investigate the leak and repair it as required within 7 days.
- Handles of scoops for bulk containers, like sugar and salt, were found stored inside the containers. Tong handles were directly stored in the food at the cold top. The staff was instructed to store scoops separately to prevent hand contamination.
- Three pressurized gas cylinders were found not secured behind the soda box rack at the bar. The restaurant was instructed to secure the structure within seven days.
- Several dry and used wiping cloths were found on the counter throughout the kitchen and in wiping buckets without sanitizer. The report instructed staff to maintain sanitizer levels of 100 ppm chlorine or 200 ppm quaternary ammonium. The staff was educated on proper sanitizing procedures and how to prepare the sanitizing solution. One sanitizer bucket was set up during the inspection.
- A water leak was noted in the handwashing sink located in the middle of the kitchen. The staff was advised to repair the leak and maintain proper handwashing facilities within 7 days.
- The front door was found left open at the beginning of the inspection, and live flies were observed inside the facility. The door is required to be closed when not in use, and the staff was instructed to install a screen door immediately to prevent vermin entry.
- Worn-out grout lines were observed throughout the kitchen, mainly in the washroom area. Grease, cloudy water, and food debris had accumulated in the grout lines. The report called for the grout to be repaired within two months.
- The current health permit was not posted. The staff was ordered to locate the current health permit card and post it within 7 days. If unable to find it, the restaurant can contact the Environmental Management Department for a replacement.

Follow-Up Inspection

The department of health issued a red placard, and the health permit of the facility has been suspended due to cockroach infestation. The restaurant is required to correct the violations before reinspection. The food safety certificate and food handler cards were not documented due to the closure and will be checked during the reinspection.
