Cartel Roasting Co., an Arizona-based coffee company, is taking over ownership of Moto Deli in Encinitas at 190 N. Coast Highway 101.
The company clarified the ownership change after a recent report incorrectly suggested Cartel would open a cafe in the Moto Deli space. A company representative told WhatNow that Moto Deli will remain at the location, with Cartel taking over ownership of the business.
Moto Deli’s website and ordering system remain associated with the Encinitas location, where the sandwich shop operates at 190 N. Coast Highway 101. The company has not announced any plans to close or relocate the restaurant. Cartel’s involvement will come through the ownership transition, not the opening of a new cafe.
Jason and Amy Silberschlag founded Cartel Roasting Co. in Tempe, Arizona, in 2008. The company operates cafes throughout Arizona, along with California locations in Los Angeles and Palm Springs, according to its website. Its Los Angeles location opened this year, marking an expansion beyond Arizona.
The Encinitas ownership change will bring Cartel into the existing Moto Deli business rather than introduce a new Cartel cafe. The liquor license application includes transferring Moto Deli’s existing license, though additional details about the ownership transition have not been announced. The company has clarified that the restaurant will remain Moto Deli.
