A new Mexican-inspired eatery called Comedor Nishi is preparing to open in La Jolla at 1109 Wall Street.

This is the latest from Shōwa Hospitality, which is responsible for a handful of other local eateries, including Convoy Music Bar, The Taco Stand, Showa Ramen, Himitsu, and a handful of other concepts in Los Angeles, New York City, and Miami. The group, led by Julian Hakim Baloyan and Aram Baloyan, is now preparing to open a new concept called Comedor Nishi in the former home of Coffee Cup Café, according to SanDiegoVille. The new concept is expected to open in late Summer 2024.

When Comedor Nishi opens later this year, customers can expect a variety of delicious Mexican breakfast and lunch options, as well as plenty of alcoholic choices. The new concept will sit between Burger Lounge and Sushi Nekosan next to the Krista Schumacher Art Gallery. While La Jolla is known for having some of the best seafood and high-class dining options in San Diego, Comedor Nishi will have to compete with Puesto, Raymundo’s Taco Shop, and Jose’s CourtRoom. The new concept will use its delicious food and community outreach to gain a loyal following in the area.

“Shōwa understands that a new opening also represents a new neighborhood,” according to the company’s website. “Our team engages local communities through ongoing support of youth organizations, schools, disaster/relief funds, and environmental sustainability efforts. With spaces in San Diego, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, each of our restaurants, hotels, and bars seeks to constantly present fresh ideas and welcoming environments through exceptional service, design, and a commitment to quality.”
