Drink 182, a bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and arcade concept inspired by pop-punk culture, is preparing to open in Ocean Beach at 5049 Newport Avenue.
The company’s new location is set to move into the former home of Cass Street Bar & Grill and Harry’s Taco Shop, according to SanDiegoVille. An exact opening date has not been announced, though the business has already secured an active Type 47 restaurant liquor license through Drink 182 OB, LLC. The company’s social media hints at a Summer 2026 opening. The ownership group includes Jason Wildes and Joshua Dunn. Once open, customers can expect a mix of daytime coffee service and a nighttime lineup featuring pizza, cocktails, craft beer, arcade games, and themed décor.
Drink 182 is being developed as a hybrid hospitality concept that blends food, beverage, and entertainment under one roof. The space will feature neon lighting, signed memorabilia, arcade machines, and custom artwork from San Diego artist Konecki. The design also incorporates music-video-inspired elements, aiming to create a high-energy, casual hangout environment.
The Newport Avenue location has seen several tenants over time, including JJ’s Sports Bar & Grill, Cass Street Bar & Grill, and Harry’s Taco Shop. Cass Street Bar originally started in Pacific Beach on Cass Street before expanding into Ocean Beach, while Harry’s Taco Shop was launched by the team behind Mike’s Taco Club.
Drink 182 is not officially affiliated with the band Blink-182, though its branding draws clear influence from pop-punk culture. The concept also highlights New England-style beach pizza, alongside specialty cocktails, mocktails, and coffee from James Coffee Co., adding a broader food-and-beverage mix to the entertainment-focused venue.
