Five Corners Coffee & Bakery Co., a specialty coffee shop and scratch-made bakery, is getting ready to open in Bankers Hill at 3407 First Avenue.

The new independent concept is set to debut in June 2026, open daily from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and offer both dine-in and to-go options, according to a media release. Five Corners Coffee & Bakery centers on high-quality coffee and a bakery program that complements the drink menu. Customers can expect a mix of classic espresso beverages, seasonal drinks, and a range of baked goods.

Five Corners is built around an exclusive sourcing and roasting partnership with Kings Road Coffee, a Los Angeles-based cafe and small-batch roaster founded by Lawrence Casperson. The collaboration resulted in a signature blend created specifically for the San Diego cafe. The coffee combines estate-grown beans from Indonesia, Central America, and South America, selected for their distinct flavor profiles. The final blend is designed to deliver a balanced cup with a full body and layered flavors.

“In 35 years, I’ve never shared my roasted coffee with anyone—until now,” Lawrence Casperson, Founder, Kings Road Café & Coffee, said in a media release. “I decided to collaborate with Five Corners Coffee because David earned my trust. He approaches his coffee the same way I do: with intention, integrity, and authenticity. Together, we developed a unique blend just for Five Corners that truly stands out. It is well-balanced, full of complex flavors, drawing on similarities to Kings Road Coffee’s signature blend, and justifiably so.”

Founder David Ferriot brings a long-standing interest in specialty coffee to the project, shaped in part by his experience as a regular customer of Kings Road Coffee. According to the release, the partnership reflects a shared approach to sourcing, roasting, and preparation. Specialty coffee accounts for a small share of the global market and is defined by high-scoring beans, ethical sourcing, and traceability. This focus forms the foundation of the Five Corners coffee program.

“Through this partnership, we’re bringing San Diego not only some of the finest specialty coffee in the world, but a blend that is truly outstanding,” Ferriot said in the media release. “Lawrence brings 35+ years of experience sourcing, roasting, and blending his specialty coffee. I lived two blocks from King’s Road and went twice a day—it’s still the most flavorful coffee I have ever tasted. To be partnering with Kings Road now is just incredible, and I am excited to share what we have crafted with the San Diego community.”

Ferriot tells Whatnow San Diego that Five Corners’ signature roast is a specialty coffee blend of estate-grown Indonesian, Central American, and South American varietals sourced from five countries, an origin that gives the blend its name, though the specific countries are kept as a trade secret, while the producing regions are disclosed.

The bakery program will be led by pastry chef Sarah Salcedo, founder of Tu Madres Bakery. The menu will include both sweet and savory items such as empanadas, laminated pastries, espresso-inspired baked goods, and small desserts. Each item is designed to pair with the coffee menu while also standing on its own. The bakery follows a scratch-made approach, emphasizing quality and consistency.

“We’re creating a bakery program that feels thoughtful and approachable, where every item pairs seamlessly with the coffee while still being memorable on its own,” Salcedo said in the media release.

The space includes a renovated outdoor patio and sidewalk seating, offering a setting for both quick visits and longer stays. Located along First Avenue near Royal Food Mart and Mia Trattoria, the cafe adds a new option in the Bankers Hill neighborhood. The team plans to introduce the concept with a soft opening ahead of its official launch in June.
