Madison on Park, the University Heights restaurant owned by Jeff Fink and Matt Sieve, is set to temporarily close on September 7, 2026, for a top-to-bottom renovation and reworking of the restaurant’s concept at 4622 Park Boulevard.
The new concept does not yet have a name, though Fink and Sieve plan to give the restaurant a new design direction described as “moody mid-century maximalism,” according to San Diego Magazine. The owners plan to add more artwork and uplighting while keeping the space intimate rather than heavily cluttered. Anna and David Sindelar, who designed the original Madison, will return to work on the redesign. Fink and Sieve also operate Sonny’s Pizza in University Heights and Madi in Normal Heights. The pair are also planning to open Josie’s, a Midwestern-style, all-day diner, later this fall, inspired by Sieve’s Minnesota background.
The original Madison won an Orchid Award for interior design in its first year. Chef Mario Cassineri, associated with Ciccia Osteria and Bice Ristorante, developed the original menu, which focused on Mediterranean flavors alongside California classics. The revamped menu is expected to move toward smaller, lighter, shareable dishes, with Fink drawing some inspiration from his travels in Spain.
Fink has said he would like to have roughly 15 menu items priced below $20, although the final menu has not been confirmed. Danny Kuehner will continue developing the restaurant’s cocktails and mocktails, while also selecting wines from Europe and locally. The new menu and beverage program will be part of the restaurant’s updated concept.
Madison announced the upcoming closure on Instagram, writing, “For her next act, Madison is heading to Hillcrest to help her great aunt get ready for her debut next month. And the keys to Madison? They’re staying in the family. Another sibling has plans for this little section of Park Blvd. But she’s not ready to gossip about that just yet. So come have one last supper. Order the martini. Sit in your favorite booth. Make out in the bathroom. Remember whatever it is you remember. We’re here for 3 more weeks. Curtains close September 6. Something new starts September 7.”
