Momo Sando & Omakase, a Japanese concept offering sushi, sashimi, rolls, and sandwiches, is working on a new location in Carlsbad at 2521 Palomar Airport Road, Suite 103.
The restaurant recently submitted documents to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality for the space, which will replace Hellopoki at Palomar Commons. While no opening date has been announced, customers can expect a grab-and-go take on omakase, with sushi, sashimi, rolls, and sandwiches prepared using ingredients and cuts of fish selected by Chef Changjin Oh.
The concept is based on the Japanese term omakase, meaning “I leave it up to you.” According to the company’s website, Chef Oh wants to make the experience accessible without requiring a formal setting or special occasion. Momo Sando & Omakase offers different grab-and-go boxes designed to reimagine the fine dining experience through comfort food.
Chef Changjin Oh began his career at JW Marriott’s Mikado Japanese Restaurant in Seoul, South Korea, after graduating from culinary school. He later worked with Nobu Restaurants in Dallas, Malibu, Chicago, and San Diego. Oh served as Executive Sushi Chef at both the Chicago and Hotel Del Coronado locations.
The menu includes sushi omakase options such as Momo Omakase, Toro Trio, and Maki & Nigiri Sets. Other offerings include Momo Chirashi, Sake Toro, Ikura & Yellowtail Don, Sake Don, Aka Don, and specialty maki such as Salmon Truffle Maki and A5 Wagyu & Toro Taku. Sashimi and salad options include Yellowtail Yuzu and Salmon Mustard Miso.
The sando selection includes Strawberry, Tonkatsu, Chicken Katsu, Eggs, Soft Shell Crab, Shrimp, and a Mix featuring pork, egg, and shrimp. The Carlsbad location will be a new home for the concept at Palomar Commons, with further opening details to be announced.
