SusieCakes, a bakery concept known for classic American desserts made from scratch, is preparing to open a new location in La Jolla at 8855 Villa La Jolla Drive, Suite 490.
The company’s new bakery will move into Sprinkles’ former home in The Shops at La Jolla Village, according to documents recently submitted to the San Diego Department of Environmental Health and Quality. An exact opening timeline has not been announced, but the filing indicates early development activity. Customers can expect a menu focused on cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and other traditional baked goods made with simple ingredients.
SusieCakes was founded in 2006 by Susan “Susie” Sarich and has grown into a multi-state bakery brand with locations across California, Texas, and Tennessee. The company describes its concept as centered on creating meaningful connections through baked goods, serving both everyday occasions and milestone celebrations. Today, the brand operates more than 30 bakeries and continues to expand its footprint nationwide.
The company’s growth has been supported by a focus on traditional recipes and a consistent bakery experience across its locations. SusieCakes also began shipping products nationwide in 2022, expanding its reach beyond its storefront bakeries. The brand emphasizes preservative-free ingredients and a simple baking approach rooted in classic pantry staples such as butter, eggs, flour, and sugar.
The La Jolla Village location adds to SusieCakes’ continued expansion in Southern California. What Now previously reported that the bakery was also working on a site at The Forum Carlsbad, marking another San Diego County addition to its portfolio. That project reflected the brand’s steady growth in coastal communities with strong retail centers.
Menu offerings typically include signature items such as vanilla celebration cake, old-fashioned chocolate cake, red velvet cake, carrot cake, and seasonal cupcake varieties. The bakery also features cookies, bars, and custom celebration cakes for events. Limited time items rotate throughout the year, offering seasonal flavors alongside year round staples.
