A new gaming store is preparing to open in San Diego’s Point Loma neighborhood. According to its Facebook page, Big Dog Gaming Center plans to open at 2744 Midway Drive.
Big Dog Gaming Center will bring together tabletop role-playing games, tabletop wargaming and trading card games in a space designed for players to meet, play and connect. The gaming center will feature games such as Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer, Pokémon and Magic: The Gathering. The business has also announced plans for at least four private rooms available to rent in three-hour blocks.
What Now San Diego reached out to owner Roger Vance, who confirmed that a soft opening is scheduled for mid-November 2026, followed by a grand opening on January 2 and 3, 2027.
Opening a gaming store had been Vance’s longtime goal, and the opportunity eventually aligned with a personal family need. “I’ve always wanted to open a gaming store, and just the stars aligned,” he said.
The store’s name also has a family connection. Big Dog is named after the family’s Chihuahua, “who may be small but carries himself as though he is much bigger,” Vance told What Now San Diego with a laugh.
According to Vance, Point Loma was a natural fit because the location offers the space needed to accommodate players. “It’s perfect for what we’re trying to do because we need a lot of space for people to come and play games,” he said.
Beyond its gaming selection, Big Dog Gaming Center plans to build a community through recurring events. Vance said the store intends to host activities every week, with prizes and other attractions planned for the grand opening.
The team is seeking Game Masters to host games in these spaces. Big Dog Gaming Center is also exploring dog adoptions as a potential community initiative, although Vance noted that the plan has not yet been approved.
