Chef Charlie Hallowell — the Bay Area restaurateur behind Pizzaiolo, Boot & Shoe Service, and Penrose — plans to debut a new eatery in Oakland, according to Oaklandside.

Coming to 3724 MacArthur Boulevard — an address currently belonging to World Ground Cafe — the yet-to-be-named concept will land near establishments such as the clothing store Beast Oakland, Jo’s Modern Thai, and Sequoia Diner.

With Pizzaiolo’s Chef Anthony Lee at the wheel, the new restaurant will reportedly offer seasonal, wood-fired pizza and pasta.

“Hallowell has been mostly off the grid since 2017, when more than a dozen former staff members from Pizzaiolo, Boot & Shoe Service, and Penrose made allegations of sexual misconduct and verbal abuse,” the San Francisco Chronicle shares.

Alongside his new business partner, Donna Insalaco, Hallowell hopes for a fresh start.

What Now San Francisco reached out to Hallowell to inquire about the restaurant, but he could not provide additional information before publication.

An opening date has not yet been announced, so stay tuned for updates.
