M4S BBQ is preparing to open at 7707 Pioneer Way in downtown Gig Harbor, according to a liquor license application filed with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board. The restaurant is taking over the former Brimstone PNW Smokehouse location.

The application lists Brenda and Matt Henning, owners of My 4 Sons BBQ, as applicants. The couple acquired the restaurant and plans to operate the Gig Harbor location under the abbreviated M4S BBQ name.

The Hennings also operate My 4 Sons BBQ at 9823 Portland Ave. E. in the Midland area near Tacoma. Its menu includes smoked meats, sandwiches, combination plates, and house-made sides.

My 4 Sons BBQ grew from Matt Henning’s interest in the regional barbecue styles he encountered while traveling around the country. He began recreating those flavors for his family, and the couple’s four sons tested the recipes and inspired the restaurant’s name.

At the Midland restaurant, the kitchen smokes meats daily over hickory wood in a pellet smoker rather than reheating them. It also makes its rubs, sauces, and sides from scratch.

An exact opening date has not been announced. Follow My 4 Sons BBQ Facebook account for opening updates.
