Poquitos has reopened at 1000 E. Pike St. in Seattle under new owner Saulo Cruz. The Capitol Hill restaurant closed for one day on August 3 during the ownership transition and returned to normal business hours on August 4.
Capitol Hill Seattle reported that Cruz acquired the restaurant after its founding ownership stepped away. He is also a co-owner of nearby Tavern Law.
Poquitos opened in 2011 under founders James Weimann and Deming Maclise. Under the new ownership, the restaurant plans to keep much of what customers have known for the past 15 years.
Poquitos continues to offer lunch, dinner, happy hour, and weekend brunch, along with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free-friendly options. The menu includes guacamole, ceviche, carnitas, burritos, enchiladas, street tacos, and other Mexican dishes. The bar serves margaritas, cocktails, tequila, mezcal, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks.
The space itself is also staying largely familiar. More than 15,000 handmade Talavera tiles line the restaurant, along with metalwork, woodwork, and other pieces Weimann and Maclise collected before opening Poquitos.
One of the restaurant’s most recognizable features predates Poquitos. Its neon sign was salvaged from a Mexican restaurant that once operated on Greenwood Avenue and still hangs above the East Pike entrance.
