Magnolia Bakery, the New York City-based dessert brand known for its banana pudding and classic American baked goods, is planning to open 10 locations across Ontario as it prepares to enter the Canadian market.
The Ontario rollout will be led by franchisees Chetanshi Thakkar and Shaishav “Shay” Thakkar, according to BlogTO. While specific addresses and opening timelines have not yet been released, customers can expect Magnolia Bakery’s signature desserts, including banana pudding, cupcakes, cookies, and other bakery items.
Founded in 1996 in New York City’s West Village, Magnolia Bakery originally built its reputation on classic American desserts, particularly its red velvet cupcakes and banana pudding. The bakery quickly became a neighborhood favorite before gaining national attention in the early 2000s.
The brand’s popularity grew further after it appeared in HBO’s “Sex and the City,” which helped turn its West Village location into a tourist destination. Over time, Magnolia Bakery expanded beyond New York, opening additional locations across the United States and entering international markets, including Kuwait, India, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.
Today, the bakery is widely recognized for its banana pudding, which features layers of vanilla pudding, fresh bananas, and vanilla wafers. The item has become one of its most requested menu offerings, alongside cupcakes, brownies, and seasonal desserts. Magnolia Bakery also continues to grow its retail and shipping business through nationwide delivery, catering, and grocery-style packaged desserts.
The company currently operates multiple locations in New York, California, Illinois, and Utah, as well as several international stores. Its Canadian expansion marks one of its most significant growth moves in recent years as it enters a new North American market.
