School Specialty Coffee, a Canadian specialty coffee concept known for its multi-roaster approach and café experience, is getting ready to open a new location in Hamilton at 147 Locke St S.

The company’s new location will occupy the former space of Cheque “N” Cash, according to the brand’s Instagram announcement. While an exact opening date has not been confirmed, the post indicates the project is actively underway. Customers can expect a coffee-focused space highlighting award-winning Canadian roasters, fresh food options, and a relaxed café environment.

School Specialty Coffee currently operates inside Mapleview Mall in Burlington, where the brand first launched about three years ago. In its announcement, the company noted that the original shop was built around Canadian roasters, community engagement, and specialty coffee culture. The upcoming Hamilton location represents its next standalone expansion outside of a mall setting.

The Locke Street South address places the café within one of Hamilton’s established independent retail corridors. The area is home to a mix of cafés, restaurants, and local shops that attract steady neighborhood traffic throughout the day. This will be the brand’s first known expansion into a street-front location in the city.

School Specialty Coffee highlights its use of freshly roasted, single-origin, micro-batch coffees, as well as brewing tools and café items for customers interested in at-home preparation. The brand’s identity centers on third-wave coffee standards and education around sourcing and preparation.

“We’re transforming this space into a specialty coffee destination focused on award-winning Canadian roasters, fresh food, and a place where people can slow down, connect, and stay awhile,” according to the company’s Instagram announcement. “To everyone who’s supported us over the last three years, thank you. This wouldn’t be happening without you.”
