Plans have been submitted for a new coffee shop at 2348 Castro Way Suite 101 in Curtis Park. Qisa Coffee, a new Yemeni and Peshawari fusion coffee shop owned and operated by Abdul Aziz, will soon open its doors in the neighborhood. The coffee shop will occupy a 931-square-foot suite in the approximately 3,424-square-foot mixed-use development Amalia. The space also comes with a 576-square-foot patio.
The name “Qisa” means story in Pashto and Arabic. The business is inspired by “Peshawar’s Qisa Khwani bazar,” also known as “The Storyteller Market.” Aziz posted on the business’s Instagram in late February, announcing that he has signed the lease for the vacant suite at 2348 Castro Way.
“QisaCoffee will be a home for our customers, where memories are made, stories are shared, and moments are celebrated with friends and family.” The post said.
The concept is not only a coffee shop but also a visualization of what Aziz believes a community space should be. Aziz has worked diligently on the coffee shop over the past three years and finally found a suitable space in Curtis Park. As of now, a signage saying “we’re opening soon” has been placed on the exterior of the space. Meanwhile, Qisa’s name and logo are pending with USPTO.
With the ambitious goal to revamp Sacramento’s coffee scene, Qisa Coffee’s menu features various Yemeni and Peshawari drinks, including the signature Qisa Latte, Karak Chai (Peshawari Chai), Turkish Cold Brew, and a luxury Turkish Coffee experience brewed with Turkish Cezve. The coffee shop will also have snack options, including Honey Bites, Cheese Pies, Beef Pie, and the unforgettable treat in the beloved Narnia movies: the Narnia Lokum.
“Curtis Park in Sacramento isn’t just a neighborhood; it’s a warm embrace of history and community,” Aziz wrote on Qisa Coffe’s website. “As Qisa Coffee prepares to join this cozy corner of Sacramento, we’re thrilled to weave our story into this historic neighborhood, much like we’ve done in Peshawar.”
What Now Sacramento reached out to Aziz but hadn’t heard back by the time of this coverage. Qisa Coffee is anticipated to open on June 1 according to the business’s Google listing.
