Ray Garcia, the well-respected chef behind Los Angeles’ Broken Spanish and B.S. Taqueria, is getting ready to open an unnamed restaurant within Walt Disney’s Concert Hall, located at 111 South Grand Ave.
Garcia hopes to open the new restaurant by January 2022, according to Eater LA. The new restaurant will replace Patina, which has occupied the location since 2003, until permanently closing in June 2020. The upscale fine-dining restaurant earned a Michelin star but was unable to make it through the pandemic. Now, Garcia has big plans to replace the respected restaurant with one of his own.
Unlike Patina, which had more of a pre-theater ambiance, the new restaurant will serve as a neighborhood standby with more of an inside-outside feel that spills onto their outdoor patio. Garcia hopes the new model will encourage customers to visit regularly instead of before an event. The restaurant as a whole will be more relatable and enjoyable, mainly due to the shift toward a more casual environment but still maintaining a high-level execution with seasonal ingredients.
The new unnamed restaurant will not resemble what Garcia did with Broken Spanish, which closed down last year due to the ongoing pandemic. This doesn’t mean Los Angeles will no longer see Garcia’s most iconic dish, the crispy pork chicharron. Garcia is trying to reopen Broken Spanish later in the future. Until then, Garcia hopes to revitalize one of the most iconic buildings in the entire city with his new restaurant.
“One of the goals will be that the food is going to have that common Ray Garcia DNA and style of cooking that I feel is very Angeleno and Californian in approach,” Garcia tells Eater LA. “We’re looking to serve and service the whole neighborhood of Downtown and city of LA, one that we were successful within Broken Spanish.”
Is it Ray or Ryan?
