Jack’s Cosmic Dogs announced on December 1, 2024 that its James Island location at 801 Folly Rd has temporarily closed its doors. The reason for the closure and reopening timeline remains unclear, as owner Jarrett Hodson did not respond to inquiries from What Now Charleston.
The original Jack’s Cosmic Dogs was founded by Jack “The Big Dog” Hurley on James Island. The eatery later moved to Mount Pleasant, where it remains today. Hodson acquired the brand in 2022 and reopened the James Island site in 2023.
Known for its imaginative hot dogs, retro sci-fi decor, and fresh-cut fries, Jack’s has been a local favorite since its debut in the late 1990s. Alongside its signature dogs, the eatery serves burgers, chicken tenders, soft serve, and milkshakes.
The brand has been voted “Best Hot Dog” in Charleston every year since 2000 and was named the “Best Hot Dog in South Carolina” by Southern Living in 2021.
For now, fans can visit the Mount Pleasant location to get their Jack’s fix. Be sure to follow the eatery on Facebook for the latest updates.
Hi Cat,
Is there an update why this is closing?
