The Angelus Cafe, which used to be within Downtown Los Angeles, is relocating to Highland Park, located at 5001 N. Figueroa St.
Owner John Harb has applied to the Los Angeles Planning Department to reopen the cafe five miles northeast of its original location. Harb tells What Now Los Angeles he hopes to open the new cafe sometime in Early 2022. The new Angelus Cafe hopes to open within a 1,234 square-foot space with a 60 square-foot outdoor patio. The cafe’s inside can hold up to 60 patrons, while the patio has room for an extra eight. The proposed hours are 8 am to 10 pm daily.
This cafe used to sit within the Angelus Plaza, an affordable senior community. Although the Plaza is still there, the restaurant closed down quite some time ago. Now, Harb gets ready to reopen his cafe in the former home of The Shop Auto Body, Inc. It’s unclear at this point if Harb plans on reimagining the previous menu, but he hopes to sell beer and wine at this establishment at least.
At the original location, The Angelus Cafe was known for flavorful American food at a low cost. Some of their menu items such as grilled pork chop, ribeye, garlic mash, and french fries. For dessert, the cafe used to offer several ice cream flavors. Harb has been contacted by What Now Los Angeles for further details, but he has yet to return any phone calls.
