John “Johnny” Gianoulidis, who owns Kafenio and The Greek Pizzeria & Gyros, is expanding upon these previous restaurant concepts with a fresh approach. Gianoulidis has decided to start a food truck under the title of The Greek Street Food, which will bleed these two establishments together while simultaneously serving to “market” them.
Even though it’s a food truck, The Greek Street Food is “not really doing the food truck circuit thing.” Since Gianoulidis fancies themselves as more of a “brick-and-mortar guy,” the idea just isn’t as appealing — but they hope that after COVID clears up a bit, this food truck will help raise awareness for the existing restaurants. Gianoulidis said they got the idea for the food truck from the success of their College Park Kafenio location, which is set to reopen sometime in late Spring. They’re hoping to only work out of the food truck a few nights a week or so. Gianoulidis will serve familiar dishes like Pita Pockets, Spanakopita, Greek Potatoes with Feta, and Tzatziki with lemon.
By the middle of next year, they will have four restaurants and the food truck open. Beyond that, Gianoulidis has no plans to open future restaurants. While they are currently waiting on licenses to begin operations, they told What Now Atlanta that they acquired the truck back in February — but then the pandemic hit and it quickly put things to a halt. “I’m really working on trudging the road,” Gianoulidis said. “Putting one foot in front of the other.” In the best-case scenario, Gianoulidis is hoping to open in a month or so.
