Harney Oceanside is about to add another outpost of its popular restaurant and lounge. Harney Poway is currently in the works, joining Oak Knoll Plaza on Poway Road.
What Now San Diego chatted with Harney Oceanside co-owners Jesse Sletteland and Michael Haig about the addition of Harney Poway and the growth of its North County location.
The team purchased Harney Sushi in Oceanside in 2019, expanding from a spot with authentic grub to include two full bars and regular live entertainment.
Sletteland shares that the seaside town has caught up with Harney, which has grown into a bustling hotspot of new eats and nightlife. Now Harney will bring a bit of its signature flair to Poway, a spot where Sletteland and Haig saw a need.
Sletteland and Haig have tapped General Manager Jordan McConnell to oversee operations in Poway, bringing along his experience working in establishments like Sushi Lounge in Point Loma and Poway, along with Harney Sushi in Old Town.
Guests can expect the same menu of sustainable seafood, specialty rolls like the Baked Caterpillar Roll or Mellow Yellow Roll, plus an expansive menu of fresh hand rolls, vegan rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The only significant difference will be Poway’s offering of beer and wine only.
The team will be making some minor interior upgrades to the new space, along with the addition of a DJ booth and lounge area, providing a cool new hangout for locals. Another plus, Sletteland adds, Harney Poway gives locals a stop in between Harney Oceanside and Harney Sushi in Old Town, the latter of which was acquired by Sam Azzu of The Living Room Coffeehouse in 2022.
Harney Poway is expected to open in early Summer 2023, offering dinner and to-go orders to start but will likely open up lunch service down the road. Until then, visit the Harney Oceanside website for more information.
