James Beard Award finalist Sam Hart has revealed he is opening a new Italian concept called Spaghett, coming to Uptown Charlotte’s Fourth Ward, located at 224 W 10th St.
The chef is getting ready to open this new concept in the former home of Poplar Tapas Wine & Spirits in the Morrison House building, according to Axios Charlotte. The new two-story restaurant will feature two bars on both floors, with “The Upstairs” being a speakeasy. Spaghett can fit about 50 to 60 people across its main dining room, private dining room, outdoor patio, and upstairs bar. Hart expects to open this restaurant in June 2024.
“Well the cat’s out of the bag…” Hart said on his Instagram. “Thrilled to be a part of the incredibly rich history of the Morrison House and Fourth Ward, while writing new history alongside our Irreverently Refined Hospitality team. Spaghett will be a wild wild time.”
This is one of many projects Hart is working on. The renowned chef is getting ready to close Biblio, a reverse-wine pairing restaurant at 2001 West Morehead Street, to focus on his first Charlotte restaurant, Counter-, an immersive tasting menu experience where several sensory factors play a part in the meal. The space will now cede way to a new offshoot of Counter-, known as Archive, a separate dining room featuring a seven-course tasting menu, according to Charlotte Observer. Hart is also working on opening a Japanese robatayaki food stall called Maneki in The Alley.
“It’s bittersweet for us to announce that Biblio will be closing its doors after service on Saturday, December 9,” according to an announcement made via Biblio’s Instagram. “Our sister restaurant, Counter-, will take over and fill both spaces at 2001 West Morehead Street beginning Friday, December 15. Within the team, we have adopted the Danish expression tryk, which means to push or pressure in a positive and forward motion, focusing on getting better every day. The support our guests have shown for Counter- has been overwhelming, and with this expansion, we’re excited for the opportunity to bring you an even more unique experience.”
