The beloved bagel shop Tompkins Square Bagels is set to open its fourth outpost at Third Avenue in Lenox Hill this winter.

It will be housed at 1159 Third Avenue, which was formerly occupied by Jardino Italian Cafe and America’s Cafe & Grill. The bagel shop first debuted in the East Village in 2011, and quickly garnered a loyal customer base willing to wait in lines that go down the block from its doors. Such lines can still be seen to date on weekends. The joint is known for its hand-rolled, kettle-boiled bagels, its wide-array of flavorful spreads and gourmet sandwiches.

“I want my stores to be a big celebration, a big deal,” its co-owner Christopher Pugliese told The Patch. “I always try to make a New York City jewel every time I open a shop.”

Tompkins Square Bagels is one of a few staple bagel shops in the East Village neighborhood. Nearby Black Seed Bagel and Russ and Daughters are also popular. However a new bagel shop from Brooklyn is coming soon and shaking up the status quo, as previously reported by What Now New York.
