The team behind Long Island City’s Takumen is opening a Japanese sandwich shop called Taku Sando in Greenpoint.

Taku Sando is slated to offer craft Japanese sandwiches served with freshly baked shokupan bread including a Japanese-style chicken cutlet sandwich called katsu. The team’s flagship concept Takumen in Long Island City is a coffee shop by day and an Izakaya-style restaurant by night. It is helmed by Japanese-American Kiyo Shinoki who has served as a chef and creative director for numerous restaurant establishments including Bohemian in Noho, Tonchin, which has outposts in both Midtown Manhattan and Los Angeles, and Brooklyn Ribbon Fries.

The new sandwich shop is located across from Transmitter Park, making it a perfect stop to pick up food for a picnic. It is one of many including Radio Star set to join the neighborhood soon, as previously reported by What Now New York.
