South Jersey residents craving a fast-casual Mexican option have reason to tentatively rejoice. A development group is petitioning to build a Chipotle in Medford, reports local media outlet 70 and 73.

If approved, the popular restaurant will be built at 122 NJ-70, a space that is currently occupied by the Medport Diner. Future regulars shouldn’t crack out the guacamole just yet; before construction can begin on the Chipotle, the Medport Diner would need to be demolished, and before that can occur, J & J Development Group LLC-the firm spearheading the project-need to attain township approval.

The proposal and its submitted application will be discussed at the February 21 Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting. The Chipotle is one aspect of a grander plan. J & J is hoping to construct  a 13,905 square foot shopping center, featuring a variety of tenants.

Should Chipotle and the project at large be given the green light, the eatery will be exclusively order-ahead.
