A family-owned restaurant is preparing to complete a New Jersey hat-trick. Char Steakhouse is opening its third location in the Garden State later this year, reports Patch.

Owned by the Ingrao family, the chain will be taking over the space recently vacated by Grillestone Restaurant at 2377 Route 22 in Scotch Plains. Char’s ownership plans to renovate the building pretty extensively, and have not yet broken ground. The steakhouse is hoping to begin serving visitors in winter of 2024.

The Scotch Plains Char will feature a more contemporary design. Michael Capezio, Char’s director of operations, describes the restaurant’s updated plans, stating “We will be building a glass atrium with lots of fireplaces. We have a beautiful design plan and looking to hopefully break ground in the next few months.”

Char will offer patrons both indoor and outdoor seating. The establishment will have two bars, one for the interior patrons and one to facilitate al fresco dining.
Capazio believes Char will fill a void in Scotch Plains’ restaurant scene. “It is going to be great. We found a nice little niche in the market. We think we will be a welcome addition to the community.”
