A brand new fine dining concept called Il Massetos will be making its debut in Phoenix on the corner of Camelback Road and 32nd Street at 3178 E Camelback Rd.

After serving the community for more than 46 years, Tomaso’s on Camelback at 3225 E Camelback Road has announced it will be closing for good on May 20, according to the Phoenix Business Journal. Tomaso Maggiore and his wife, Patricia, opened the restaurant in 1977, and the restaurant will bring back original menu items at the original prices for its final week. Tomaso passed away from cancer in 2021. His son, Joey, has launched several successful restaurants in the area and is planning to open Il Massetos across the street to continue his father’s legacy.

When the new restaurant opens in early 2024, customers can expect a piano bar, two large outdoor patios, and private dining rooms. The menu will feature favorites from Tomaso’s, while Joey will put his own spin on his father’s classic Italian dishes. Il Massetos, which means “Tomaso” in the Sicilian language, will move into the former Bank of America space. While Tomaso’s on Camelback still has a little over a month of operation, the Maggiore family is holding a series of events to encourage people to visit, including a special lunch and dinner menu for Mother’s Day from May 12 to May 14.

Joey and his sister, Melissa Maggiore-Meyer, both owe their passion for the restaurant business to their father. Following Tomaso’s footsteps, Joey launched The Maggiore Group, which opened the Hash Kitchen, The Sicilian Butcher, The Sicilian Baker, and The Mexicano concepts. On the other hand, Tomaso’s daughter owns The Italian Daughter restaurant in Scottsdale. On top of Tomaso’s on Camelback, Tomaso also opened Tommy V’s and Tomaso’s Italian Kitchen. His legacy as a restauranteur will be remembered through Il Massetos.
