After years of serving gourmet tacos and burgers from a food truck across the Valley, Randizzle’s is preparing for its biggest milestone yet. The locally owned concept plans to open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant at 521 W. McDowell Road in downtown Phoenix, with chef and owner Randy Gatewood targeting a late September or early October opening.
The brick-and-mortar restaurant marks a shift from the company’s original expansion plans. Randizzle’s had been pursuing a location in Gilbert before securing its downtown Phoenix flagship.
“The landlord from that location in Gilbert wanted a corporate account to come in there. So we’re not going to be opening Gilbert right now. We’re going to come back to Gilbert after we open in downtown Phoenix,” Gatewood told What Now Phoenix.
“I was looking to the East Valley because that’s where I live, where I’m stationed, and where my storage is. Everything’s in the East Valley. But I came across this location, and it’s amazing. We’ll have a standalone building in an absolutely amazing location, so I’m excited about it. I’m thrilled about it.”
Founded in 2019, Randizzle’s has built its reputation as a food truck serving creative gourmet burgers and tacos, including the brand’s signature Randizzle’s sauce. Before launching the business, Gatewood spent years working in Arizona’s beer and wine industry after a professional football career that included 12 seasons with the Arizona Rattlers.
The brick-and-mortar location will introduce one notable change. While the food truck serves both burgers and tacos, the downtown restaurant will focus entirely on burgers. For Gatewood, however, opening the restaurant is only the beginning.
“This was a dream where we go from food truck to a flagship location with the goal of opening all over North America. So I have some huge goals. This is going to be our flagship location, and we’re gonna immediately start to franchise and start to move forward to make this a national brand within the next year or two.”
