First Place Coffee, a pop-up coffee shop that has been serving the Valley since 2018, is getting ready to open a brick-and-mortar in Phoenix at 822 N. Sixth Ave.
The company’s first brick-and-mortar is set to move into the former home of Garden Bar Phoenix, according to AZ Central. Owner Devon McConville tells What Now Phoenix that she plans to open this new coffee shop in the first half of 2025, differing everything from the original menu, light bites, pastries from The Dinersaur, and beer, wine, and cocktails. McConville also plans to curate playlists for the cafe, which customers can download or listen to live on the website.
McConville launched First Place Coffee in 2018 after she and her partner restored a 1970 Chevy P10, formerly an ice cream truck, into a mobile coffee shop. Since then, the two have been working the circuit in Phoenix, serving coffee at various locations via pop-up. This week, the coffee truck can be found at 700 W. Campbell on Thursday and Friday, The Womack on the weekend, and The Churchill on Monday. All pop-up locations operate from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.
“Our main focus has always been on people and community,” McConville tells AZ Central. “With the physical space, I want to have people gather and feel at home. I want it to be a neighborhood hang-out spot where friends and colleagues can meet over coffee or a drink or where you can spend some time alone and read a book. There isn’t a place in downtown where you can do all those things under one roof.”
