Oyamel by chef José Andrés is heading to Mercado Little Spain at Hudson Yards amid a revamp of several concepts.
Oyamel originally opened in Washington, D.C. in 2004 and it will now replace the Spanish Diner at Mercado Little Spain. It will serve Mexican cuisine, such as ceviches, tacos and margaritas.
“Honoring the rich regional diversity of the country through authentic ingredients combined with the vibrancy of Mexico City, Oyamel embraces its roots with small plates with bold flavors, a creative cocktail program – home to Chef Andrés’ famed Salt Air Margarita – and a lively atmosphere that has remained unmatched in the D.C. region and, now, will bring new energy to NYC’s dynamic Mexican food scene,” a release obtained by What Now New York states.
The interior design, a nod to Mexican street festivals, will feature bright colors and butterflies as well as natural touches and greenery.
Oyamel is not the only new concept joining Mercado Little Spain. It will join new steakhouse Txula, also from the Jose Andres Group, heading to Hudson Yards.
Oyamel is expected to open in spring 2025.
