2 Chainz‘ popular Atlanta restaurant Esco Restaurant & Tapas is one step closer to opening in Downtown Memphis, located at 156 Lt. George Lee Ave.

The Downtown Memphis Commission Design Review Board approved the company’s plans on June 1, according to franchise owner Mowbray Rowand. A DMC staff report says he and Cherina Rowand will undergo a “comprehensive renovation of the interior space,” which includes plans for an outdoor patio. The Memphis natives have three tentative grand opening dates, all scheduled during a high-profile concert at the FedEx Forum. Rapper and founder 2 Chainz will be in attendance for the grand opening.

Depending on how the next few weeks go, Mowbray tells What Now Memphis he sees three opportunities for grand opening dates: June 29, when Drake’s It’s All A Blur Tour comes through town; July 13, when Future and Friends take the Forum, and at the latest, on September 7 for Lil Baby’s upcoming concert. While it’s still early to say exactly when the restaurant will open, Mowbray says he hopes to open during mid-July 2023.

When the new 6,000-square-foot restaurant opens later this year, it will be packed with entertainment and delicious food. On top of various seafood and tapas from executive chef Dephon Robinson, the restaurant will have music, hookah, and plenty of flat-screen TVs. This will be the company’s fourth location, with new sites planned for Dallas and Marietta. It is, without a doubt, going to be one of the most exciting places to go in the Downtown Memphis area, especially after an event at the FedEx Forum.
