Captain D’s, the Nashville-based American fast casual restaurant chain specializing in seafood, is opening a new location in Oakland at 6700 US-64.

The company’s newest location will sit between a Burger King and Cadence Bank, according to franchisee Joe Springer of SonFish, LLC. He tells What Now Memphis the company will take four to five months for a complete build-out and is expected to open at the beginning of next year, hopefully in January or February. Captain D’s has over 500 locations throughout the United States, with over a dozen throughout Memphis. This will be the Easternmost location in the greater Memphis area.

The restaurant, which started as Mr. D’s Seafood and Hamburgers in 1969, offers a handful of seafood options, such as fried fish, shrimp, lobster, crab, and platters, and sandwiches, all of which can be grilled or fried. During the pandemic, the company managed to stay afloat by pivoting to a new Express prototype, featuring a 960-square-foot building model with drive-thru and walkup windows only. The new Oakland location proves the company is still confident in its standard brick-and-mortar design, which was redesigned in 2012.

“We believe good seafood can transform any meal into a moment to remember,” according to the company’s website. “Throughout our 50-year history, our focus has been making great seafood available to everyone, every day and creating a place that makes an ordinary day feel special. From the friendly smiles and hand-crafted cooking of our crew members to our beachy restaurant design, we want you to feel relaxed as we transport you to the coast.”
