A brand new bakery called Broken Tart is making its way to Oak Park, located at 1108 Chicago Ave.
This new sister-owned bakery and cafe will specialize in cakes, bakes, coffee, and lunch. Owners Kristina and Katie Mack hope to open Broken Tart sometime this summer. Kristina launched the business back in 2014 as an online business offering special order cakes and cookies. Since then, she has earned recognition on Zagat Chicago’s 30 Under 30 in Food and Hospitality List and built an ever-growing list of loyal customers. Construction for this new business began in February 2022.
Now, she and her sister are ready to turn this part-time operation into a full-fledged cafe with expanded menu offerings. When the new restaurant opens, customers can expect a modern bakery and cafe a few steps away from the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio. Broken Tart will have specialty cakes, delicious baked goodies, healthy salads, delicious coffee, and much more, all made with fresh, seasonal, and high-quality ingredients.
“Broken Tart is our ode to the broken-in-yet-always-charming delis of Europe,” according to the company’s website. “It’s our tribute to the old-school Chicago bakeries we frequented as kids. And it’s our love letter to the simple magic that exists in family kitchens. We adore these places for the sense of community and belonging they create – and for their ability to change the course of your day with a single bite.”
