Burgerworks Colorado, LLC, a franchisee of Whataburger, is on a roll with opening locations of the chain in the area. Its fifth iteration just opened in the Springs metro, and on the heels of that, the company submitted a proposal for location number eight at 1035 S. 21st St.

The parcel is about 1 acre and sits near the intersection of Cimarron Street and 21st St. Whataburger wants to build a 3,147-square-foot property with a drive-thru on the south side, records show.

The Colorado Spring Gazette broke the news of the permit filing and stated that there is not a clear timeline on if/when approvals will be granted and subsequently when construction can begin.

Whataburger re-entered the Colorado market in 2022 after originally being in the state in the 70s. The current open locations are all towards the northern side of the city.
