Regional supermarket chain Gelson’s is looking to add a new location in Toluca Lake, located at 10063 Riverside Dr.
The company, founded in Burbank in 1951 by Bernard and Eugene Gelson, recently submitted documents to the Los Angeles Planning Department but has yet to have anything approved. If plans get approved, a brand new 9,965 square-foot Gelson’s will move into the corner of Riverside Drive and Mariota Avenue with an onsite cafe. This will be the 16th location in Los Angeles County and the 28th overall, recently opening a new store in Westlake Village.
Although the plans are still being considered, fans of the grocery chain will have a lot to be excited about if this goes through. First of all, customers can expect the fresh, high-quality produce and items found at every Gelson’s Market, including a section for baked goods, wine, dairy, meat, seafood, and craft beer. The onsite cafe, called Taps Lounge, will have 22 seats for customers and offer wine on tap. If plans go through, this Gelson’s will likely open sometime in 2023, considering the tenants it will replace are still operational.
“For over 70 years, Gelson’s Markets has served Southern California shoppers with an enthusiasm for food of the highest quality,” according to President/ CEO Rob McDougall. “Our team of buyers shop local markets every day for the ripest produce, best cuts of meat, and freshest seafood; our grocery experts create a selection of convenient items from around the world to perfectly fit our customers’ needs, and our chefs offer a full menu of sophisticated recipes.”
We already have an expensive store in the area, Whole Foods. We don’t need this. You’re going to ruin our village. Waaaa. don’t put your ugly store in our neighborhood.
