Sushi Beluga, the Japanese sushi restaurant found at Playa Del Rey, is opening a second location in Long Beach at 707 E. Ocean Blvd. Site C.

The company’s new location will move to the ground floor of The Current Apartments, sharing the space with Poki Cat and Hi-Lo Liquor Market. Owner Cun Sang Chi first opened his restaurant in the Matilla Village Center, not too far from the Del Rey Lagoon. The accomplishment became possible after Chi was granted a $50,000 loan from the City’s Microloan Program, being the program’s first recipient. Now he is getting ready to become the go-to sushi option in the area.

This is great news for the residents of The Current, who are already just a few steps away from 555 East American Steakhouse, At Last Cafe, Michael’s Pizzeria, and many other great restaurants. Another reason The Current residents will benefit from this is that there are no other sushi options nearby besides Sushi Mafia on E. Broadway. While the exact opening date is to be determined, it’s an impressive move from Chi, who opened Sushi Beluga in December 2019.

When the new location opens, customers can expect a wide variety of sushi options, from hand rolls to family platters. No matter what style of sushi is selected, customers will have dozens of classic options, such as avocado rolls, rainbow rolls, and crunchy dragon rolls. A recent liquor license application from the restaurant suggests the new Long Beach site will also have some kind of alcohol, most likely sake.
