A Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based neighborhood bakery and café is expanding to Boston with a second location.

Elephantine Bakery is currently seeking an alcohol license for its upcoming 332 Congress St eatery, a 4,624-square-foot ground-floor space in a six-story building. The new location will feature a window seating area, a service bar, and a main dining area with seating for about 65 patrons.

Founded in 2018 by husband-and-wife Sherif and Nadine Farag, the original Elephantine offers a selection of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inspired breads, pastries, coffees, and à la carte small plates. The elegant space evokes the charm of an old-world European café.

According to the eatery’s website, Sherif graduated from FERRANDI Paris, where he studied bread and viennoiserie, while Nadine earned her master’s degree and pursued doctoral studies in global health at Harvard. Later, the duo decided to follow their shared passion for “slow food” and “soulful hospitality,” leading to the creation of Elephantine.

What Now Boston has reached out to the Farags for opening day details and will update this page as more information becomes available.
