An all-you-can-eat Asian feast could soon be coming to a busy retail corridor in Novi.

The UMI Buffet is prepping to open later this year at 42875 Grand River Ave. within the Main Street Novi Shopping Center, according to a lease agreement signed last month.

Jacky Chen, one of the future buffet’s owners, confirmed the lease deal and said his team is working to open shop in three months.

There was no word as to what kind of dishes will be offered on the food bar. UMI Buffet has yet to set up a website or establish its soon-to-come presence on social media.

“Umi,” the Japanese word for sea, is a term often used in sushi-themed Asian dining establishments. Leasing records show the director who signed documents for the Novi location also inked a lease agreement earlier this year for an UMI Buffet in Miami, Florida

It wasn’t clear if the new restaurant will be part of the Umi Sushi & Seafood Buffet franchise, which has locations in New York City, Florida and other states and bills itself as the largest and most elegant Chinese, Japanese and American cuisine restaurant.
